QSEARCH V2.0
(C) 1987 By Rich Olivieri and Vince Deegan
ALL RIGHTS RESERVED
Permission is granted to use, copy and distribute freely this TRYWARE
version only. The enclosed TRYWARE version will search a maximum of two
files. When executed from the DOS commandline the TRYWARE will search
the first two files matching a file-pattern. Additionally from the
Bible menus the TRYWARE version will search two Bible files,
the Book of Romans and Book of Proverbs.
LIST OF FILES:
If you downloaded QSEARCH from a BBS or information service you
should check to see if you have all of the following files:
QS.COM - executable file
QS.DOC - this file
ICN.REG - ICN registration form...use this to order QSEARCH
B20-PROV.OT - Book of Proverbs
B45-RM.NT - Book of Romans
SET UP FILES:
* Place the QS.COM file in the drive and directory of your choice.
If you plan to call QS.COM from other drives and/or directories then
you must include the full path at the DOS COMMANDLINE or include the
QS.COM drive and directory in the PATH within your AUTOEXEC.BAT file.
EXAMPLES:
B>A:QS "SEARCH" *.TXT <-- This will invoke QS from drive A:
and search files matching *.TXT in
the ROOT directory of drive B:
C:\BIBLE>QS <-- This will call QS if the QS.COM file
is in the default directory [C:\BIBLE]
or if the QS drive and directory is
in the PATH statement.
NOTE: The two Bible files must be in the default directory.
[BK20-PROV.OT & B45-RM.NT]
NOTE: To set the drive and directory of QS.COM in the
PATH statement make sure your AUTOEXEC file contains
the following line:
PATH=C:\DIRECTORY
^ ^---- name of the directory
^------ drive
^--------------------------^
^
Subsitute your drive & Directory
TO RUN QSEARCH:
* FROM DOS COMMANDLINE:
QS /CF "SEARCH PHRASE" FILE-PATTERN
/CF - These are two switches or toggles.
C - Means CASE is ON or significant ie
Caps will only match Caps
DEFAULT is CASE is OFF
Caps will match caps, Caps and CAPS
F - Send Results to an output file.
DEFAULT is OFF ie send results only to the screen.
NOTE: The FILENAME for the output file is built from
the search phrase or QSEARCH.LST is used.
"SEARCH PHRASE" - The search phrase can consist of a word or a phrase and
must be enclosed in double quotes " ".
FILE-PATTERN - Any valid DOS filename with or without wildcards can be
entered for a FILE-PATTERN. Wildcards will be expanded
according to MSDOS rules.
EXAMPLES:
cat*.txt
i?m.*
* TO GET THE BIBLE MENU:
ENTER QS without any additional parameters.
GENERAL FEATURES:
SCREEN PAUSES - QS will pause only when it finds a match and
when the screen is filled. At the screen pauses
you can choose to abort the search, continue
with screen pauses or continue without screen
pauses.
SEARCH SUMMARY - At the end of a search QS will display a summary
of the cummulative total of matches and the totals
of matches by file. QS also prints a summary of totals
at the top of the screen as it is conducting a search.
SPEED - QS will search most files at a rate of 35,000 bytes
per second. Higher rates are possible with some
files and when CASE is OFF.
NOTE: Rate is based on using a hard drive and
an X-Turbo 7.14 MHZ IBM/XT Clone
TYPES OF FILES - QS will search any PCDOS/MSDOS textfile ie a file
containing ASCII text where each line ends with
a CR/LF sequence and is not longer than 255 characters.
QS will also search binary files for ASCII strings,
but will only print 255 characters of the file for
each match. Files containing lines longer than 255
can be searched, but the highlighting of matches
maybe off by one character.
QSEARCH is a high speed search program that will search textfiles without
an index at a data rate of 35,000+ bytes per sec...or 1 meg in less than
30 secs (or the New Testament in 30 secs). QSEARCH is being distributed
by Christian Information Ministries, Intl. (CIM) with the ICN King James

ICN KJV BIBLE FILES:
The Bible files that accompany QSEARCH are the ICN King James Bible
data files. The text of these files was obtained and used by
permission from Computers For Christ BBS #1. The original files
were in 40 column text format and were converted to a "flat-file"
format with most verses contained on a single line of 255 characters.
Where a verse was longer than 255 characters it was split into one
or more lines with a letter appended to the chapter/verse number to
represent which line it was. EXAMPLE: 10:01a, 10:01b etc.
Better than 90 percent of all the verses were placed on one single line.
The original files were typed in by users of Computers For Christ
BBS using the public domain version of the King James Bible. ICN reviewed
the Bible files several times for format and spelling errors, but it is
possible that typographical errors are still present in the text.
ICN will continue to proof-read the files and post any changes in an
errata file. Users of QSEARCH and/or ICN are encouraged to report any
errors found to ICN at the address below or through the ICN BBS.
Hundreds of hours were put into the preparation of the Bible files and
as such ICN has copyrighted the files in their present format.
This copyright does not extend to the text itself, nor is it meant to
to restrict the distribution of the ICN Bible files for the purpose
of developing Christian Educational software. The ICN Bible files
may be distributed freely in their present format so long as changes
are not made to the text except to correct the text in accordance
with the King James Bible and with the following exceptions.
* The ICN Bible files maybe not be used with or as a promotion for any
commercial product without the express written permission of Christian
Information Ministries or ICN.
* The ICN Bible files may be posted on any BBS or Information
service ONLY WITH the expressed written permission of Christian Information
Ministries or ICN. ICN wishes to reserve the right to determine
where the files are posted. The ICN Bible files are distributed free
except for a distribution fee of $5.00 per disk.
[The QSEARCH TRYWARE Files are OK to copy and to post]
